Caresha said watch, so we’re watching. Yung Miami’s long-awaited debut solo album, Watch Dis, arrived today, Friday, Oct. 23, and the City Girls star came with a guest list that reads like an awards-show seating chart.

A 21-Track Statement

Per the tracklist shared ahead of release, Watch Dis runs 21 tracks and includes the pre-release singles “F You,” “2008” and “Spend Dat.” That last one is her biggest solo hit yet, climbing to No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her first solo Top 20 entry.

The features are deep. Travis Scott appears on “Just Might Go,” Summer Walker joins her on “Ride For You,” and Bryson Tiller and London On Da Track link up on “Old Time Sake.” Quavo and G Herbo share “TMTC,” while Pleasure P slides in on “Baby.”

Miami gets its flowers too: “Dade County” brings Rick Ross, Trina and Trick Daddy together on one track. And “Spend Dat” gets two remixes, one with Lil Baby and Kodak Black and an international version with Davido, Shenseea and Vybz Kartel.

Betting on Herself

When she announced the project earlier this month, Yung Miami made it clear this one is personal. In a post on X, she wrote, “This is me betting on ME.” She also told fans she knew people had counted her out, and that she chose to go big rather than play it safe with a single.

The rollout leaned into that energy, with London On Da Track producing “F You,” a reworking of the Yo Gotti and Meek Mill record, and J White behind “2008,” which dropped with a music video.

We’ll be curious to see how the Summer Walker collab lands with fans, considering everything the Atlanta singer has going on in her ongoing label dispute.

A Letter to JT

The most talked-about track might be the most personal one. On “Dear JT,” Yung Miami speaks directly to her City Girls partner, looking back on the broke days they survived together before the fame, and admitting that their public falling-out was embarrassing. She frames the song as a letter to a friend she still cares about, even with the friendship on pause.

Complex reports that Miami didn’t play the song for JT before it came out, and as of Friday, JT had not publicly responded. In a Pandora Playback interview cited by TheGrio, Miami said the two last spoke around JT’s birthday nearly two years ago. Asked about a reunion, she answered, “I mean, inshallah.”

Fifteen years of reunions, receipts and run-ins are coming full circle. VH1 has confirmed that Love & Hip Hop: The Final Chapter, a six-part limited series looking back on the franchise that changed reality TV, premieres Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

The retrospective will air simultaneously on VH1, BET and MTV, with new episodes rolling out weekly. That three-network simulcast says a lot about how deeply this show is stitched into the culture.

Who’s Pulling Up for the Farewell

According to the official announcement, the series blends fresh sit-down interviews with cast, producers, network executives and journalists, revisiting the breakout stars, business moves, confrontations and controversies that defined each city: New York, Atlanta, Hollywood and Miami.

Atlanta is well represented. Stevie J, Joseline Hernandez, Mimi Faust, Rasheeda Frost, Scrappy and Yung Joc are all part of the lineup, alongside Yandy Smith, Trina, Trick Daddy, Safaree Samuels and Ray J. Angela Yee, Nina Parker and Jess Hilarious join as cultural commentators to put it all in context.

Complex reports that the look back will also spotlight the franchise’s biggest launching pads, including Cardi B’s run from the New York cast to Grammy winner, and Joe Budden’s path to podcasting. BET Immersed is planning a digital cover feature with extra behind-the-scenes content.

From Harlem to the A

The franchise debuted in New York in 2011 before Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta made the city a reality-TV capital, turning names like Joseline into household ones. The series is produced by Antoinette Media, the company behind Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, Miami and Family Reunion. Its founder and CEO, executive producer Lashan Browning, summed up the franchise’s heart simply: it has “always been about the people.”

For longtime viewers, this is the closest thing to a family photo album the genre has ever had. Expect plenty of laughs, a few winces and at least one “I can’t believe they said that on camera” moment per episode.

Queens just got a VIP room, and Nas cut the ribbon. Resorts World New York City opened its new International Room on Oct. 22. The casino is calling it the city’s first and only exclusive high-roller gaming destination.

Inside the International Room

The roughly 13,657-square-foot space has 48 table games and three private gaming salons for high-limit baccarat, roulette and blackjack. Guests get dedicated hosts, upgraded drinks and 24-hour hot and cold dining without leaving the floor. The private salons can be reserved, with extras like karaoke.

Meghan Taylor, Resorts World NYC’s SVP of government affairs and public relations, said in the announcement that players who wanted this level of service “had to leave the city to find it” until now.

A Big Year in Southeast Queens

The opening comes as Resorts World NYC celebrates 15 years in Southeast Queens. It’s part of a larger first-floor expansion that adds 57 table games and 147 slot machines, for a property total of nearly 300 live table games and more than 4,000 slots.

According to the company, it’s also fewer than seven months since the property opened as New York City’s first full-fledged casino. In July, it broke ground on Phase II of a $5.5 billion integrated resort. The plans include a 7,000-seat arena, 2,000 hotel rooms, dozens of bars and restaurants, and 11 acres of green space.

Having Nas there fit the moment. The Illmatic legend is one of Queens’ most famous sons, and his presence tied the new luxury space back to the borough’s culture. Robert DeSalvio, president of development for Genting Americas East, said the company plans to hold “many events like today’s in the near future.”

Why it matters: Luxury nightlife and VIP experiences usually send New Yorkers to Atlantic City or Las Vegas. A high-end space in Queens, opened with one of hip-hop’s biggest names, shows the borough becoming a destination for culture, entertainment and big nights out.

Almost four decades, no lease, no rent, and now a court case. Stevie Wonder is suing to remove Carmen Efferson, a woman he was reportedly once engaged to, from a Los Angeles home he owns, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

A Handshake Deal From 1988

According to the filing as reported by TMZ, Efferson has lived in the property since July 1988 under a verbal agreement. There was no written lease, and the rent was $0 a month. Wonder’s side says that arrangement is now over.

TMZ reports that Efferson and Wonder had a romantic history and were said to have been engaged in the late 1980s. Wonder has been married to his third wife, Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, since 2017.

What Wonder’s Team Says Happened

Per the documents, Wonder’s team tried several times over the summer to inspect the house for insurance purposes. They say Efferson refused to let anyone in. His lawyers argue that put the property’s insurance coverage at risk, so they sent her a notice in July ending her right to stay, with an Aug. 27 move-out date.

Wonder’s side says she’s still there. He’s now asking a judge to order her out, and he’s also seeking damages and legal costs.

TMZ also reports a tense email exchange between Efferson and Wonder’s legal team in the lead-up to the suit. As of publication, no full public response from Efferson to the lawsuit had been reported, and N’Style Atlanta has not independently reviewed the court filing. These are claims made in a lawsuit, and a judge hasn’t ruled on any of them.

Why it matters: Stevie Wonder is Motown royalty and one of the most beloved artists in Black music. A legal fight that reaches back to his late-’80s personal life is a reminder that even legends have to sort out the business of handshake deals. Atlanta showed up, and the Dream showed out. The Atlanta Dream played Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in front of a sold-out State Farm Arena on Wednesday night, then beat the Golden State Valkyries 97-71 to take a 2-1 series lead.

From 3,500 Seats to 17,000

The Dream usually play at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which holds about 3,500 fans and is the smallest arena in the league, according to Front Office Sports. For the team’s first Finals home games, the WNBA and the Dream moved Games 3 and 4 downtown to the Hawks’ 17,000-seat arena after working out scheduling conflicts, the AJC reports. Game 3 moved up a day, from Thursday to Wednesday, to clear a concert already booked at the arena.

It worked. The AJC and Front Office Sports both report the arena sold out for Game 3. State Farm Arena CEO Steve Koonin told Front Office Sports the building wants “to be partners” with the Dream and the WNBA. That partnership is getting bigger: the Dream have already said State Farm Arena will be their home next season.

Angel Reese and Company Handle Business

With the crowd behind them, the Dream took control. Angel Reese led the way with 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals, including both of her three-point tries, per CBS Sports. Rhyne Howard added 16, Naz Hillmon had 15, Isobel Borlase scored 12 and Jordin Canada chipped in 10.

CBS Sports notes Reese is now the only player besides A’ja Wilson to post back-to-back 20-point, 10-rebound games in the Finals. Atlanta is also undefeated this season when she makes a three. Golden State, meanwhile, hasn’t shot better than 35% in any game of the series.

This run is already historic. Monday’s 79-65 win in San Francisco was the first WNBA Finals win in franchise history, Yahoo Sports reports. Now the Dream are two wins away from the franchise’s first title.

What’s Next

Game 4 is Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at State Farm Arena. It opens a downtown doubleheader, with the Hawks’ home opener against Houston at 8:30 p.m. CBS Sports called Saturday “essentially a must-win” for Golden State.

Why it matters: A sold-out NBA arena for a women’s championship series is a statement about Atlanta, and about how far the women’s game has come. If the Dream win two more, this city gets a title, and it’ll have happened in front of its biggest crowd.

The Banks family had a moment on Tuesday night, and it wasn’t easy to watch with dry eyes. On Dancing with the Stars Dedication Night, Tatyana Ali dedicated her dance to her late TV father, James Avery, and her on-screen brother Alfonso Ribeiro joined her for it.

A Waltz for Uncle Phil

Ali, who played Ashley Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, danced a Viennese waltz with pro partner Jan Ravnik on the Oct. 20 episode of Season 35. Their song was Nancy Wilson’s “(You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am,” and theGrio reports Ali also recorded her own version of it for the tribute.

Ribeiro, now a DWTS co-host and the show’s Season 19 champion, left the host’s spot to join her on the dance floor, after taking part in rehearsals too. The routine ended with Avery’s photo on the screen while the two former castmates looked up at it.

Ali told PEOPLE, as reported by theGrio, that the tribute wouldn’t have felt right “without Alfonso on the stage with me.” Ribeiro said joining her felt natural, and called it a chance to say thank you to the man who played Philip Banks.

The Father Figure Behind the Role

For a generation of viewers, Avery’s Uncle Phil was the model TV dad: a stern judge who would still drop everything for his family. Ali says he played that role off camera too. She called him a mentor who “taught me all the artists he thought I needed to know,” and in an Instagram post ahead of the show she said everything she believes about being an artist came from him.

Avery died in December 2013 at 68. More than a decade later, a dance-competition ballroom turned into a family reunion for the Banks household. If you’ve been enjoying the return of Black sitcom history, like Netflix’s A Different World revival, this one hit the same spot.

Why it matters: Fresh Prince is still family TV for Black households across generations. Seeing two of its stars use a primetime stage to honor the man who held that family together is the kind of legacy moment our audience grew up on.

The King of Crunk is turning the volume down, just long enough to tell his story. Lil Jon’s debut memoir, I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me, hit shelves Tuesday, Oct. 20, and it’s a lot more personal than the man behind “Yeah!” and “Get Low” has ever been in public.

Written with music journalist Paul Cantor and published by Atria/Black Privilege Publishing, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, the book follows Jonathan Smith from childhood in southwest Atlanta to the studios and stages where he helped turn a regional sound into a global party.

From the SWATS to the Super Bowl

Rolling Stone reports the memoir opens with his mother’s birth in Alabama, not his own, and moves through the late-’90s and early-2000s Atlanta scene that made crunk a movement. There are chapters on the records everybody still knows every word to, and on his work with Usher, Ciara, Ice Cube and Pitbull.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the book also goes behind the scenes of Usher’s 2024 Super Bowl halftime show. It covers the reflection that came with turning 50 in 2022, his turn toward meditation and wellness, and a family revelation: the man who raised him is not his biological father.

Writing Through Grief

The hardest chapter came late. Lil Jon told Complex he had already finished the manuscript earlier this year, then went back to it after the death of his son, Nathan “DJ Young Slade” Smith, in February. The book’s epilogue is about that loss. He told the AJC plainly, “I’m still mourning,” and told Complex he hopes his honesty might help another grieving parent get through it.

That openness matches the tone he set when the book was announced in the spring. He said this project “made me dig deep and turn inward,” which is a long way from the man screaming “OKAAAY!” over the club speakers.

For fans who just want the party stories, he’s got those too. His own pitch to the AJC: if you’ve ever partied to his music and want to know the man behind it, “just pick up the book.”

Atlanta has always shown up for Lil Jon, from the Freaknik documentary premiere to every wedding reception that ends with “Turn Down for What.” Now the city gets to hear the parts he never shouted.

Why it matters: Lil Jon helped put Atlanta’s sound on the map. A memoir that pairs that legacy with honest talk about family, faith and grief is a rare kind of hip-hop history, and a lot of it comes from our city.

Hov might finally be taking the stage he’s spent years building for everybody else. A new report says Jay-Z has picked himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show in Los Angeles. But nobody has made it official yet, so hold the confetti.

What the Report Says

On Oct. 20, Puck’s Dave Brooks reported that, according to multiple sources, Jay-Z chose himself for the February 2027 show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Per the report, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber were also in the conversation before he landed on the headliner he apparently found most compelling: himself.

Here’s the key detail. Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation answered requests for comment, and theGrio called it an industry claim, not an official announcement. Until the league says so, this stays in the “reportedly” column.

Why Jay-Z Gets to Make the Call

If you’re wondering how an artist can book himself, the answer is the deal Roc Nation signed with the NFL in 2019. That partnership made Jay-Z’s company the league’s go-to for live music entertainment, and it was renewed in 2024. Roc Nation has since produced some of the most talked-about halftime shows in recent memory, including Kendrick Lamar in 2025 and Bad Bunny in 2026. The New York Daily News notes Bad Bunny’s set went on to win seven Emmys.

The timing makes sense too. 2026 marks 30 years since Reasonable Doubt and 25 since The Blueprint, and Jay-Z has been on a victory lap. Puck pointed to strong ticket sales for his anniversary shows and recent stadium dates in New York, Philadelphia and Paris. Rolling Out reports he has two SoFi Stadium shows coming this weekend, and some think an announcement could land around then. If you caught our coverage of Beyoncé’s surprise at his Yankee Stadium finale, you already know these shows have been major.

If it’s confirmed, this would be Jay-Z’s first time headlining the Super Bowl. That would be a big moment for a catalog that has soundtracked three decades of Black culture.

Why it matters: For years, Jay-Z has been the architect behind the halftime show, putting Black and Latino artists on the world’s biggest stage. Seeing him finally step into the spotlight himself would be a full-circle moment. It would also restart the debate about who gets the halftime stage and who decides.

Katt Williams has never been one to wait for permission. Today, Oct. 20, his first memoir hits shelves, and he’s using the moment to talk up an even bigger swing: his own film studio just across the Georgia line.

The Book

Nine Lives, No Wives, and 69 Concubines is out now from Gallery Books/13A at Simon & Schuster. It runs 336 pages and comes with a foreword from Shaquille O’Neal. According to the publisher, Katt starts with leaving home at 13 and stepping away from his Jehovah’s Witness upbringing. From there he hitchhikes to Florida, works odd jobs, and finally finds his way onto a small comedy club stage.

The book also gets into how he paid for his own tours and kept ownership of his work, along with his life as a father, his faith and his legal battles. When he announced the release, Katt called it “the story of a superhero without powers,” Revolt reported. That’s very on brand.

The Studio

The book tour has a business plan riding shotgun. In a recent USA TODAY interview highlighted by theGrio, Katt said Hollywood boxes Black filmmakers into a much narrower range of stories than everyone else gets. He’s not interested in just griping about it, either. “Nobody needs a complainer, even if they’re correct,” he said.

His answer is Kemet Movie Works, which is turning the former Fort McClellan Army post in Anniston, Alabama, into a production hub. Birmingham’s WVTM 13 reports that the site includes two sound stages built for virtual production, CGI and immersive sets. Katt has also partnered with Miles College, an HBCU in the Birmingham area, to teach students AI and augmented-reality film production.

Katt has said that seeing Tyler Perry turn a former military base into Tyler Perry Studios showed him what was possible. Perry’s lot, of course, is still pumping out projects like The Gospel of Christmas with Tank and Fantasia. Katt also credits the Chitlin Circuit, the network of Southern venues that launched legends like James Brown, as inspiration.

Why it matters: Black ownership of where the stories get made, and not just who stars in them, is how the culture gets more control over its own narrative. And with Atlanta already the Southeast’s production capital, a second Black-owned studio a short drive away could mean more jobs and more pipelines for our creatives.

Tip is going back to the yard. Well, somebody’s yard. Atlanta’s own T.I. has been named grand marshal of Tuskegee University’s 2026 Homecoming, and he’ll be on the field at halftime too.

The Game Plan

TMZ Sports first reported the news, and theGrio notes that Tuskegee has since confirmed it. On Saturday, Nov. 7, T.I. will lead the morning Homecoming parade. Then he’ll hit the field with the Marching Crimson Pipers during halftime of Tuskegee’s matchup against Miles College at Cleve Abbott Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Central.

It’s a family affair, too. His youngest daughter, Heiress Harris, is scheduled to sing the national anthem. That fits nicely with the university’s theme for Homecoming 102: “A Renaissance Family Affair.”

A Full-Circle Moment

This booking didn’t come out of nowhere. Earlier this year, T.I. featured the Marching Crimson Pipers in the video for “Trauma Bond,” which samples the band’s signature “Ball N’ Parlay.” TMZ describes the song as part of Kill the King, which it calls his final album. HBCU Sports reported that the track came out in March through Grand Hustle and EMPIRE, and it framed the band feature as part of T.I.’s longer history of supporting HBCUs, including Morris Brown College here in Atlanta.

So when the Pipers strike up that sample live with T.I. standing in the middle of the formation? Yeah, Tuskegee might need a bigger stadium.

T.I. has been a fixture at Atlanta’s biggest culture moments for two decades. Flash back to when he and Tiny hosted the Grand Hustle black-tie holiday party at Pangea Studios.

Why it matters: HBCU homecoming is our Super Bowl. When an Atlanta hip-hop pillar puts his name and his platform behind a band and a campus, it puts a national spotlight on HBCU culture, and that spotlight is a big part of how these schools draw students and support.

Fairmont Crest is about to get a whole lot more Atlanta. Kandi Burruss and Tabitha Brown are guest starring on CBS’s Beyond the Gates, and their first episode airs this Thursday, Oct. 22.

Who They’re Playing

Kandi steps in as Kalista Kilroy, the first modeling agent of Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley). Tabitha plays Tia Allen, host of a “Welcome to Your Life” TV special that Dani’s best friend Pamela Curtis (Cady McClain) puts together in her honor.

On paper it’s a celebration, with Dani’s parents, sister and daughters all on hand. But according to Soap Opera Network, a few surprise guests (Kalista among them) turn the tribute into an awkward stroll down memory lane. Complex reports that the fallout lands on Naomi (Arielle Prepetit), Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Andre (Sean Freeman). You know how soaps do: nobody shows up to a party in Fairmont Crest without a little history in tow.

The episode airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT on CBS and streams on Paramount+.

A Hometown Booking

Here’s the part we love. Beyond the Gates is set in a wealthy Black enclave in suburban Maryland, but the show is actually filmed right here at Assembly Studios in Doraville. So the RHOA legend and multi-hyphenate mogul didn’t have to travel far for this one.

It’s also a little reunion. Both women have appeared on Showtime’s The Chi: Kandi played Roselyn Perry across several seasons, and Tabitha had a guest turn as Octavia. And they’re in good company. The soap has already welcomed Bravo faces like Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant and Dr. Wendy Osefo from the Potomac franchise.

Created by showrunner Michele Val Jean and produced by CBS Studios with the NAACP and Procter & Gamble Studios, Beyond the Gates premiered in February 2025. CBS has since renewed it through the 2027–28 season, which makes it one of the brightest spots in daytime TV.

Hillman is back in session, and the new class is getting its flowers. Maleah Joi Moon and Cornell Young IV, the on-again, off-again couple at the heart of Netflix’s A Different World sequel, stopped by The Jennifer Hudson Show this week with original star Kadeem Hardison to talk chemistry, legacy and what comes next.

The New Class Has Range

Moon plays Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, with Hardison and Jasmine Guy back in their iconic roles. Young plays Shaquille Johnson. According to theGrio, Moon credited their chemistry to how much Young inspires her, and said she’s proud to be part of a show that “promotes hope to a new generation.”

Young praised his co-star’s résumé, noting he gets to act opposite a Tony Award winner. He also had love for the legends who came before them, saying the original cast members are “even more beautiful people than they are actors.”

Season 2 Is Officially Enrolled

The 10-episode first season premiered September 24, exactly 39 years after the original, and Netflix renewed it for a second season days later. Netflix’s Tudum says Season 1 made the streamer’s English TV Top 10, and Season 2 will follow Deborah into her sophomore year. No premiere date has been announced yet.

The creative team is stacked. Felicia Pride is the showrunner, and Debbie Allen is an executive producer who directed several episodes, including the premiere. Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, who got early career breaks writing for the original series, are executive producers too. TheGrio also reports the show held a special screening in Atlanta on September 21 before it premiered.
