The GOAT is finally taking the field. After years of choosing the halftime stars, Jay-Z will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show himself. The show is set for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Last week we told you Jay-Z had reportedly picked himself for the gig. Now the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation have confirmed it, and they did it in style.
“Goat’s Out of the Bag”
The reveal came during halftime of Monday Night Football’s Cowboys-Eagles game on Oct. 26. Apple Music ran a black-and-white spot of Jay-Z standing among goats in an empty stadium. It closed with a simple line: “Goat’s Out Of The Bag.”
In a statement shared by the NFL, Hov called it “a dream come true.” He tied the moment to 30 years in music, going all the way back to his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had one request when the league partnered with Roc Nation in 2019: “that JAŸ-Z take the stage himself one day.” Seven years later, he’s getting his wish.
Roc Nation Runs It Back
Since 2019, Roc Nation has helped curate halftime lineups that included Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. Super Bowl LXI will be the eighth halftime show under that partnership, and Roc Nation will again executive produce. Hamish Hamilton returns to direct. He also directed Beyoncé’s 2013 halftime show.
The timing makes sense. Jay-Z’s JAŸ-Z30 stadium run celebrated 30 years of Reasonable Doubt and 25 years of The Blueprint. It wrapped with two nights at SoFi Stadium, the same venue that will host the big game. Those shows featured guests including John Legend, DJ Khaled, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
The game airs on ESPN, ABC and Disney+, with mobile streaming on NFL+. No guest performers have been announced yet, so the speculation starts now.
Why it matters: Jay-Z spent years opening the halftime door for other artists. Now one of hip-hop’s most influential figures gets his own moment on the world’s biggest stage, on Valentine’s Day, in front of a global audience. For a culture that waited decades to see rap treated as halftime royalty, this one hits different.
