“I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” – 8x Platinum

Houston also remains the first African American artist to earn three RIAA Diamond-certified albums, a rare honor recognizing over 10 million units sold for each of the following: her debut album Whitney Houston, sophomore album Whitney, and the Bodyguard soundtrack.
These latest U.S.-based certifications bring her total RIAA-certified units to 114.5 million across 38 titles—a staggering feat that doesn’t yet account for her continued success in 195 other countries.
“We are honored to share this great news with Whitney’s fans,” says Pat Houston, executor of the Estate and president of The Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation. “She would be so proud to see the ongoing impact of her music and thankful to everyone involved, especially Clive Davis and the Arista Records team who helped shape her iconic sound.”
Houston’s team also credited Primary Wave Music, Sony Music Entertainment, and Legacy Recordings for preserving her musical legacy and helping it reach new generations.
RIAA President and COO Michele Ballantyne praised Houston’s timeless influence, adding:
“With eleven new certifications, RIAA is proud to celebrate how her enduring impact is still felt throughout the music industry. Whitney’s voice is a gift that continues to inspire millions.”
As fans and the industry alike celebrate the Whitney Houston 40 anniversary, these new accolades affirm what the world has always known: Whitney Houston’s music remains forever unmatched.
