On a recent episode of It Is What It Is, rap legend Mase stirred the pot when he asked viewers a very loaded question:
“Should I go to Diddy’s trial… or just pray for him?”
It’s the kind of moment that only hits hard when there’s history — and Mase and Sean “Diddy” Combs have plenty of it.
Mase, once the shiny-suited golden boy of Bad Boy Records, was handpicked by Puff in the late ’90s as a key player in the label’s post-Biggie era. With hits like “Feel So Good” and collabs with Brandy, Total, and The LOX, Mase helped usher Bad Boy into its commercial prime. But behind the scenes, things weren’t so glossy.
In 1999, Mase shocked fans by walking away from rap and claiming a spiritual awakening. But in the years since, he’s accused Diddy of exploiting artists, mishandling publishing rights, and locking talent into bad contracts — allegations that echo broader criticisms of Bad Boy’s history with former acts like The LOX, Danity Kane, and now… a federal indictment.
As Diddy prepares for trial on charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, the hip-hop world is watching closely — and so is Mase. The big question now is whether Mase should attend the trial, presumably as a public show of presence (or judgment?), or stay prayerful and distant from his former mentor turned nemesis.
So we’re asking you — Should Mase show up to the courtroom? Or should he keep it spiritual and stay away?
