Investigators found the words, “deny,” “defend” and “depose” inscribed on casings collected after United Healthcare C.EO. Brian Thompson was shot outside a Midtown hotel. 

According to NPR, the words are similar to the title of a 2010 book Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It, by Jay M. Feinman.

The NYPD released the photo of a person interest Thursday morning.

The African American Male Wellness Agency is set to host its 5th annual Atlanta Black Men’s Wellness Day to provide free health screenings to all Black men in the metro Atlanta area

ATLANTA, GEORGIA – AUG 01, 2024 ‒  The African American Male Wellness Agency recently announced its annual Atlanta Black Men’s Wellness Day on Saturday, September 14, 7:00 AM, at Morehouse College Public Health Sciences Institute, 830 Westview Drive Southwest Atlanta, GA 30314.

For the past 5 years, Black Men’s Wellness Day Atlanta has been an annual event that features a 5K walk/run and health screenings for Black men. The goal is to get as many Black men as possible to participate in free onsite health screenings that measure their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, HIV, STD/STI,  prostate cancer, and more.

“We do this every year to save the lives of Black men,” said Keith Dobbins, the Atlanta Coordinator for African American Male Wellness Agency Atlanta. “If you save a Black man’s life you save his family. When you save the family you save the community. And that’s what we’re all about, affecting massive change through the health of Black men.” 

For the 2024 Atlanta Black Men’s Wellness Day, Greg Clay, City of Atlanta Executive Director, Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services, is serving as the 2024 Honorary Chair.

“I am extremely excited to lead this annual effort here in Atlanta, as we work to impact health disparities, along with other issues, in my role with the city on a daily basis,” Clay said. “This proactive movement is a true depiction of Atlanta’s Group Project, working together to fight our community’s biggest challenges facing Black men.”

Last year, Black Men’s Wellness Day attracted over 1,500 people who received free health screenings and participated in the festivities. Morehouse School of Medicine is returning this year as a partner to conduct the health screenings. 

“Black Men’s Wellness Day in Atlanta is more than just an event- it’s a movement toward health equity and empowerment for African American men,” said Kenny R. Hampton, president of the African American Male Wellness Agency. “By addressing the health disparities that disproportionately affect our community, we are not only improving individual lives but also strengthening families and communities. Our mission is to provide the tools and resources necessary for Black men to lead healthier, longer lives and this event is crucial to making that vision a reality.”

Since 2004, The National African American Male Wellness Agency (The AA Wellness Agency) has produced a 5K Walk & Run in over 15 cities as an awareness campaign to spotlight the fact that Black Men die on average 12 years earlier than their white counterparts. For 20 years, the AA Wellness Agency has worked to save Black men’s lives, close the health gap and help Black men to live longer from preventable diseases.

In addition to the 5K walk/run and free onsite health screenings, The 2024 Atlanta Black Men’s Wellness Day will also feature live entertainment and family-friendly fun, which includes an area specifically for kids.

The reality TV star was personally selected by Dr. John Lipman to help inform women about nonsurgical treatment options for uterine fibroids.

(May 2, 2023–Atlanta, GA) – According to the National Institutes of Health, up to 80% of women will have uterine fibroids before reaching the age of 50, with an even larger percentage in African American women. Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) pioneer Dr. John Lipman, MD, FSIR, is continuing to lead the charge in educating women about non-surgical treatment options for fibroids by signing Serial Entrepreneur, Singer, and Love and Marriage: Huntsville cast member Destiny Payton as an ambassador for the Atlanta Fibroid Center. As an ambassador, Destiny will publicly speak regarding her personal journey with fibroids and increase the awareness of nonsurgical treatment options like UFE. Dr. Lipman and Destiny initially met in 2022 while attending Cynthia Bailey’s4th Annual Fibroid Awareness Brunch, where Destiny became inspired to speak transparently on her personal struggle with fibroids and infertility. Cynthia Bailey found her fibroid relief with UFE with Dr. Lipman which was chronicled on Season 6 of Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Destiny is one of many African American women who suffered from uterine fibroids and was told by a previous doctor that a hysterectomy was her best option for treatment. Destiny understood that hysterectomy was a permanent solution, but losing her uterus was too big a price to pay; even if she didn’t have a child. Fortunately, she held out and was blessed with a son (who’s now 2 years old). “The doctor told me a hysterectomy was my best treatment option, and I just did not believe that. It felt like a fear tactic”, says Destiny.

 “Numerous studies have shown that most women suffering with uterine fibroids will be given only the surgical options and not told about UFE”, says Dr. Lipman. “The uterus provides many other important functions outside of childbearing. Women should not have to lose their uterus in order to successfully treat a benign condition (fibroids).Women are entitled to know all of their options and not just the surgical ones.” Dr. Lipman speaks from over 30 years of experience, as the Founder and Medical Director of the Atlanta Fibroid Center, a state-of-the-art medical facility specializing in the non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids. To date, Dr. Lipman has performed close to 10,000 uterine fibroid embolization procedures (UFEs), making him the world’s most experienced UFE physician. With Destiny on board, it is hoped that awareness for the UFE procedure and its accessibility will be enhanced greatly.

Launching today on the American Public Health Association (APHA) YouTube Channel, “Barbershop Medicine’s” Dr. Italo Brown and Dr. Jamie Rutland will host an exclusive COVID-19 Q&A with guest Dr. Anthony Fauci to continue engaging audiences on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine while also addressing vaccine hesitancy in Black and Brown communities.

On Thursday, July 29th, YouTube Originals will launch “Barbershop Medicine” – a new special from the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund in partnership with MACRO Television Studios serving to inform the public about mistrust surrounding the medical community, why COVID-19 has impacted the Black and Brown community at astonishingly high rates, and reduce hesitancy around the vaccine. FOX THEATRE PARTNERS WITH GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH TO HOST COVID VACCINE EVENT ON JUNE 4 FROM 6 TO 8 PM

Free Community Event to Offer Vaccines, Live Entertainment and Chance to Win a Host of Giveaways

The Fox Theatre joins forces with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) to increase accessibility of COVID vaccines to the Atlanta community with a night at the theatre vaccine event on Friday, June 4 from 6 to 8 pm. As part of the Fox Theater’s VAX4LIVE campaign, this unique opportunity provides patrons with access to the vaccine, coupled with live entertainment from six-time Grammy Nominated Ashanti Floyd, known as the Mad Violinist, the Fox Theatre’s famous popcorn and other refreshments. Guests will also be eligible to win prizes, including tickets to future shows and Fox swag.

“When approached with an opportunity to serve our community in this way, we were happy to accept it. As an anchor of Midtown, we are hoping that this free event provides a more convenient and familiar setting for those still looking to get vaccinated,” shared Allan Vella, president and CEO of the Fox Theatre. “We are excited to play any part we can in getting Georgia back open as safely as possible.”

Parking is free for the first 50 patrons in the yellow lot adjacent to the right of the Fox Theatre. The Fox’s marquee will also feature a special message for those wishing to commemorate their vaccine.

Those who have had their first dose of vaccine elsewhere, are welcome to get their second shot at the Fox as long as they provide their vaccination card that shows proof of Pfizer vaccination, and it is at least  21 days since their first shot.
