CAPTAIN PLANET FOUNDATION AND DELTA AIR LINES ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP WITH CONTEST TO BRING PROJECT LEARNING GARDEN TO SEATTLE, ATLANTA, AND NEW YORK CITY SCHOOLS
Nominations are now open to enter schools to receive an educational garden!
ATLANTA, GEORGIA (December 8, 2021) – Captain Planet Foundation and Delta Air Lines today announce their partnership with a Project Learning Garden contest to bring gardens to elementary schools. The contest will be open to submissions in Seattle/Tacoma (10 schools), Atlanta (2 schools), and New York City (2 schools) where Delta employees will volunteer time to help students install and plant the gardens at all schools selected under this program.
The multi-faceted national partnership between Captain Planet Foundation and Delta Air Lines aims to provide more teachers with an outdoor learning laboratory so that children can apply learned concepts in a garden as part of their education. This expansion is expected to reach nearly 10,000 students and create countless opportunities for growing minds.
“Gardens should be an integral part of our educational ecosystem,” says President and CEO of Captain Planet Foundation Leesa Carter-Jones. “We are thrilled to be partnering with our friends at Delta Air Lines to integrate school gardens into the instructional day so that we can connect children with project-based learning, natural systems, and help them develop an early palate for healthy foods.”

Project Learning Garden (PLG) was established 10 years ago to support inquiry-based, immersive learning experiences in STEAM education for students of all levels and ages. In conjunction with applied principles of project-based learning, gardens provide teachers and students with outdoor laboratories where students have hands-on learning experiences, making many lessons taught relatable to students’ lives. To date, Captain Planet Foundation has partnered with 534 elementary schools in 40 states to install learning gardens.
This partnership brings to life Delta’s mission to support the communities where they live, work and serve while having a positive impact on the environment and supporting education. Delta Green Up employees will have the opportunity to help install, plant or harvest the gardens, and one school in each market will be selected for a special media day and tasting event.
A total of 14 schools will be chosen to receive the Grand Prize Package under Project Learning Garden. Registrations are now open at CPF.org to those who are 18 years-old, an official of the School on whose behalf the Entrant is entering the Contest (i.e., an individual with the authority to legally bind the School) or otherwise associated with such School. The application deadline is January 14, 2022. Click here for full eligibility requirements and official rules.
