We Are All Women

Nneka Onuorah Takes Philips Arena & Piedmont Park by Storm with “We Are All Women” Campaign

Social Justice Movement Educates & Inspires Women in the LGBTQ Community to Take Action at the Polls

Atlanta, GA (September 5, 2016) – Hundreds convened at the Philips Arena on Sunday, September 4, 2016 for the empowerment screening of the provocative film that has been sweeping the nation – The Same Difference. The riveting documentary highlights the issues that not only plague our society overall but also play a major role internally within the LGBTQ community, particularly among women of color. Terms such as “Femme” and “Stud” often hold a level of expectation based on the concept of gender roles, causing bisexual and lesbian women to be discriminated against on a daily basis. Producer & Director Nneka Onuorah’s unwavering desire for change sparked the social justice campaign, “We Are All Women”, which aims to increase awareness of the systematic challenges that African-American bisexual and lesbian women face in areas such as healthcare, education, and more.

Nneka had the honor of personally being invited by the Atlanta Dream to screen the film in its 18,000 seat stadium. She started her career at Viacom by being dubbed the “Super-Intern” at BET Networks by The New-York Times in an article “Dancer at Heart CEO in the Making”. She currently serves as the Associate Producer for the Black Girls Rock Awards and manages the daily duties of the Music Specials department at BET. Using her television experience and personal story, she was led to create her very first film, The Same Difference, which has now been screened in over 50 cities within the United States in addition to one in Australia. “It definitely says something when there’s nothing being done about the 15 trans-women who were murdered this past year”, says Onuorah. “Not only do [politicians] have to address the fact that we are women, they have to address the fact that we are black and are lesbians as well.”

GA%20State%20District%208%20Rep%20Park%20Cannon[1]The official launch of the “We Are All Women” campaign took place at a community rally in Piedmont Park following the screening. Women and men, regardless of sexual preference and personal beliefs, forged together and united for one common cause – social justice. Georgia State District 8 Representative Park Cannon, Executive Director of Equality Florida Nadine Smith, Program Coordinator of Solutions NOT Punishment Coalition Toni-Michelle Williams, and Pastor Pamela K. Williams of Ark of Refuge Tabernacle were in attendance at both events. They spoke about the importance of using the power to vote as a means to amplify your voice. After a day filled with passion and comradery, attendees were able to enjoy courtesy tickets to the “Atlanta Dream vs. Seattle Storm” game at 6:00 pm later that day.

Producer & Director Brandi Mitchell Hosts Point & Drive Atlanta Red Carpet Screening at Morehouse on June 24th

Groundbreaking Documentary Depicts the History of Florida A&M University’s Marching 100 and the National Impact of HBCU Band Culture

CrpT3yPAs the Producer & Director of Point & Drive, Brandi Mitchell is taking her highly anticipated documentary to screens across the nation. The film presents the passion, talents, history, struggles and triumphs of the most imitated marching band of all time, The Florida A&M University Marching 100. Audiences are able to listen to personal accounts from successful alumni such as Grammy Winning Jazz legends like Scotty Barnhart, Wycliffe Gordon and Vincent Gardner, and popular artists like Dwele.

The film provides a chronological depiction of the band’s legacy under the direction of Dr. William P. Foster, who is known for his influence in setting the standard for how many marching bands operate today. With untold stories from five generations of band classes between 1961 and 2013, it explains what it takes to be a part of such a historical entity. A former clarinet player in the M100 herself, Brandi Mitchell is reminded that she stands on the shoulders of giants. “For many of [the band members], there are lessons that we still apply to our lives today. It is important to share that knowledge to help reignite that passion in those who want to recalibrate the current season of their lives.” The #IAmPointAndDrive mantra encourages people to be resilient during that transitional period of rediscovering self.
