Georgia Entertainment Gala 2016

2016-02-10 00:46:59 nstyle

Georgia Entertainment Gala Receives Special Recognition from State Governor Annual Industry Awards Ceremony Spotlights Georgia Talent in Music, Film, Television, & Technology

Industry tastemakers and professionals alike reunited for an evening of celebration and elegance at the Georgia World Congress Center (285 Andrew Young International Blvd. NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30303) on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The ceremony opened with an official address from Governor Nathan Deal in which he expressed his appreciation of the work that the Georgia Entertainment Gala has done to provide a platform that showcases talented individuals within the state of Georgia. Mayor Kasim Reed was in attendance and agreed. “I applaud Autumn E. Bailey-Ford for her devotion to promoting excellence in the entertainment and film industries.” The audience was filled with laughs and applause as VH1’s Hit the Floor Valerie Oritz and Pooch Hall of BET’s The Game served as co-hosts and introduced the nine select categories. This year, winners of the 2016 Georgia Highlight Award included Actor Ronreaco Lee (BET’s Let’s Stay Together), Chief Creative Officer of Momentus Marketing Mil Cannon, Founder & CEO of Legendary Events Tony Conway, Jazz Vocalist & Songwriter Kathleen Bertrand, and Executive Director for the Georgia Game Developer Association Andrew Greenberg. Winners for the evening included Christine Pullara Newton for Outstanding Achievement Award; The Center for Puppetry Arts for Outstanding Contribution to the Georgia Entertainment Industry; Catherine Dyer for Georgia’s Best Actor Award; Maxie McClintock for the Georgia’s Rising Star Award; Brantly Jackson Watts for People to Watch in the Georgia Entertainment Industry; and Elizabeth Hunter for the Youth Artist Award. In addition, All of the Locals took home the Georgia’s Music Award while the film, “Bless Yer Heart”, won Georgia’s Best Independent Award.

Although this night is designed to bestow accolades, it was also developed to advance a philanthropic cause. Proceeds are dedicated to financially assisting two remarkable organizations. The Atlanta Children’s Shelter impacts the lives of homeless children by providing loving, quality child development  and support services to families who are striving to become self-sufficient. In a similar air of volunteerism, Angels Among Us Pet Rescue operates through a network of foster homes in Georgia to provide dog and cats loving families as an alternative to high-kill shelters. These non-profit beneficiaries have made a significant difference within Greater Metropolitan Atlanta and the gala is excited to be able to contribute to their endeavors. “My life’s mission is to empower those who are sparking change with their own personal gifts and talents” says Visionary & Founder Autumn Bailey. “I firmly believe that this is what the Georgia Entertainment Gala is doing.”

Attendees enjoyed stunning performances from The Voice Season 8 Contestant Brooke Adee, R&B Songstress Demetria McKinney, American Idol Season 3 Finalist Latoya London, and Paul Akister of the X Factor UK Series, who closed the show with the Ray Charles classic “Georgia On My Mind”. Immediately following the ceremony, an exclusive after party sponsored by the Atlanta Salsa Festival was held where guests enjoyed delectable eats, Latin music, and live performances from the festival’s choreographers.  Other sponsors for this memorable evening include but are not limited to Technology Association of Nathan Deal & City of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed Atlanta, Georgia Music Industry Association, UST Global, ATL Red Carpet, Salt Models of Atlanta, GOZA Tequila, Atlanta Film Festival, Black Women Film Network, FILM Atlanta, and GA Film, Georgia Music, Digital & Entertainment.

Hollywood Blackballs Mo'nique

2015-02-20 16:47:18 nstyle

Oscar winning actress Mo’nique reveals to the The Hollywood Reporter good friend Director Lee Daniels informed her Hollywood studios and executives have blackballed her because she is difficult to work with.

“Mo’nique is a creative force to be reckoned with. Her demands through Precious were not always in line with the campaign. This soured her relationship with the Hollywood community. I consider her a friend. I have and will always think of her for parts that we can collaborate on. However, the consensus among the creative teams and powers thus far were to go another way with these roles.”

Monique says she received a phone call from Lee Daniels and he said,

“Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed.” And I said, “I’ve been blackballed? Why have I been blackballed?” And he said, “Because you didn’t play the game.” And I said, “Well, what game is that?” And he gave me no response. The next thing he said to me was, “Your husband is outbidding you.” But he never asked me what [salary] we were asking for. You know, my husband and I had to change things so we wouldn’t have to depend on [others]. So we do it independently. We’re very proud of taking the independent route, and we have a movie coming out on April 24 called Blackbird…..

So I can’t answer why he said I was blackballed. There may be people that feel that way about me. But I respect everyone, from the homeless brother and sister on the street to the executive that sits in the highest office named President Barack Obama. I respect everyone — but we over-respect no one.
